The third annual Brandywine Valley Summer Series attracted top hunter and jumper riders to the Devon Show Grounds for two weeks of 'AA' rated competition held June 26 - June 30 and July 3 - 7, 2013 with a local day on July 8, 2013.

Highlights of the show presented by Taylor Harris Insurance Services (THIS) included the $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby sponsored by Johnson Horse Transportation, two $5,000 National Hunter Derbies, the $5,000 High JR/A-O Jumper Hall of Fame Classic, the $3,000 Low JR/A-O Jumper Hall of Fame Classic and numerous other special award presentations.

Week one came to a climatic finish on Sunday, June 30 as Kelley Farmer and Skorekeeper, owned by Quail Run Partners, scored high to win the $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby  sponsored by Johnson Horse Transportation. The previous day, Saturday, June 29, the $5,000 National Hunter Derby, sponsored by Outer Beaches Realty and the Risser family, took center stage. Melissa Feller and Serafino, owned by Elisabeth McFadden, rode away with the blue ribbon during the first week's derby event.

The derby action continued the weekend of July 6-7 with the show series' second $5,000 National Hunter Derby, sponsored by Concord Pet Food and Supplies and the Mutschler family. Kristen Bowman earned the top call in the class aboard her own Noble Blue. That first place finish helped Bowman to clinch the Swan Lake and Brandywine Valley 2013 National Hunter Derby Series top junior award. The award comes following the completion of a four derby series put on by the Brandywine Valley Summer Series and the Swan Lake Summer Series, with two derbies held during each event. Riders competed at the four derbies for points leading to the series high point awards presentation immediately following the final derby in the prestigious Dixon Oval. The overall 2013 National Hunter Derby Series top professional award was presented to Sandra Ferrell on Big Girls Don't Cry, owned by Kelly Cartwright, and the overall top amateur award was won by Lauren Cechini and her own Graffiti.

In addition to numerous highlight class winners and division championships, the Brandywine Valley Summer Series presented a number of other exceptional trophies and awards. The Gray Slipper Award, donated by Bridget Hallman and Merrylegs Farm in honor of her champion hunter Gray Slipper, was presented to Louise Serio as the Supreme Hunter Professional. Also given in honor of a champion mount, the Head Over Heels Trophy presented by Lisa Scott to the champion First Year Green Hunter Horse was won by Louise Serio and Cinemagic, owned by Bryan Baldwin.

The Rock Star Perpetual High Performance Trophy, donated by Jennifer Burger, was awarded to Paul Mathews and Carino, owned by Terry Morrison, and the Teddy Graham Perpetual Trophy in the Short Stirrup division was presented to Spellbound, owned by Dawn Taylor-Bell, with rider Caroline Stryker.

The Bill Rube Amateur Style Award, presented each week, was won during week one by Hope Batchelor and during week two by Jared DePermentier. DePermentier was also named the Adult Amateur 18-35 division champion with his Caytago during week two. Emily DuPont was the 3'3" Amateur-Owner 18-35 division champion during week one and the overall leading Amateur-Owner throughout the series, earning her and her horse, Coeur De Lis, both the Armistead Farm Trophy and the West Chester Hunt Perpetual Trophy, both donated by Clementina Brown. Bridget Hallman also sponsored the Take 2 Thoroughbred Hunter division where Hannah Taylor and Ship Shape were named champions.

In the jumper divisions, Madison Goetzman and Veroniequ rode away with the blue in the $3,500 Low JR/A-O Jumper Hall of Fame Classic during week one. Jacqueline Morton and Counterfoil took the same honor during week two. In the $5,000 High JR/A-O Jumper Hall of Fame Classic it was Lillie Keenan and Vanhattan, owned by Chansonette Farm LLC, who earned the victory gallop.
