EAST COAST EQUESTRIAN September 2023 Page 33 Washington International Horse Show Honor and Service Nominations Sought Nominations are now being accepted for the Washington In- ternational Horse Show (WIHS) Honor and Service Award pre- sented by the EQUUS Founda- tion. The WIHS Award Honor and Service Award was created in 2013 following the induction of Klinger into the Horse Stars Hall of Fame in 2013. Klinger, a member of the Caisson platoon of the 3rd United States Infan- try (The Old Guard), was the inspiration for the award and its first recipient. Klinger contin- ues to touch the lives of many through his life of service with the Old Guard Caisson Platoon. Klinger served as the official escort to the President of the United States, led the Presiden- tial Inaugural Parade, and acted as a TAPS Ambassador bringing comfort to veterans and families of our fallen heroes. The award recognizes a horse, individual or organization each year that best demonstrates the values of honor and service as embodied by Klinger. The 2023 WIHS Honor and Service Award recipient will be recognized by WIHS and EQUUS Foundation during a ceremony in the show arena on Friday, October 27th. The recipient will have the opportu- nity to select an equine charity on EQUUS Foundation’s Equine Welfare Network to receive a $1,500 grant from the EQUUS Foundation.
