As the American Horse Council (AHC) continues to collect responses from the 2023 Equine Economic Impact Survey, two more of the more indus- try-specific surveys are being released to shine a spotlight on impacts horses make within their communities. The equine-assisted services, known also as equine-assisted therapy or interventions, in- volves incorporating horses into therapeutic and developmental activities. These activities support individuals with various phys- ical, emotional, cognitive or psychological challenges. These services are conducted by trained professionals such as therapists, counselors or educators, in collaboration with horses. It is a sector of the industry that has a large individual impact, while its cumulative economic impact has yet to be measured…until this year. “Equine-assisted services is one of the fastest-growing sectors of the equine industry,” says Julie Broadway, president of the AHC. “It goes almost without saying that horses improve the body, mind and spirit of those they are around.” The Equine-Assisted Ser- vices survey will be distributed via the AHC through partner organizations like PATH Intl. EA- GLA, Horses for Mental Health, Certified Horsemanship Associ- ation, American Hippotherapy Association, and many more. The 2023 Fair Hill Thor- oughbred show will take place on September 16 (hunter classes) and 17 (jumper classes). “We are very excited to in- troduce our NEW Mini-Prix tak- ing place on Sunday, September 17,” said show chairwoman Lisa Demars. The entry fee is $200 with no post-entry fee. Ribbons and prize money are awarded to eighth place and formal attire is requested. Riders will each nominate a Thoroughbred Charity which he/she will represent in the class. (More than one rider may represent the same charity.) The Thoroughbred charity represented by the winning rider will receive an additional $5,000. Acceptable Thoroughbred charities are adop- tion, rescue, and placement. In its 12th year, the Fair Hill Show supports riders of Thoroughbreds by providing affordable show fees, scholar- ships, stakes classes, and prizes in every division. By supporting these riders, the show helps more OTTBs find second careers. For more information including the prize list, and to sign up, go to fairhillthoroughbredshow.org or on Facebook.
