EAST COAST EQUESTRIAN October 2021 Page 33 Carlos Jimenez, DVM Provides Chiropractic, Acupuncture and Equine Reproductive Services fied by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association and In- ternational Veterinary Acupunc- ture Society since 1992 and 1993 respectively. Dr. Jimenez was one of the first veterinarians in the USA to integrate these modalities into his equine veterinary practice and has developed and refined his techniques to optimally treat and maintain everything from top international competition horses of every discipline to geriatric pleasure horses. Veterinary chiropractic and acupuncture are used to maximize athletic performance and general health by increasing joint flexi- bility, balance, gait efficiency and fluidity, improving blood circula- tion and immune function while minimizing pain, discomfort and stiffness. Ozone therapy is used for its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobi- al, analgesic and immune enhanc- ing properties. Dr. Jimenez is also very skilled in equine reproduction with both fresh and frozen semen. Syl’s sweet things may have noticed that Syl had a long vaca- tion (actually there was far too much news to fit in Syl’s drivel). But she’s back, writing in this bi- zarro world we are now all stuck in. Syl was sure the pandemic would be mostly in the rear-view mirror by now, but on it goes, making most everything in the future uncertain. Will Horse World Expo be held in March? No one knows. Meanwhile there is talk of making ivermectin a prescription drug because so many are self-dosing with the toxic-to-humans dewormer instead of simply getting the safe, approved, free vaccine that would make this whole problem go away. Anyway, on to the news. Syl hopes all her darlings made it through Hurricane Ida unscathed. ECE contributor Suzanne Bush spent some time in her Montgomery County, PA basement with husband Guy and Australian Shepherd Alice due to tornado warnings. Fellow con- tributor Marcella Peyre-Ferry , who lives near Oxford, PA, had a tornado touch down a very few miles from her farm and minor flooding in her barn. Longtime Brandywine Polo announcer Bradley Hendrix did not fare so well as he lost everything in the flood. A GoFundMe page has raised more than $11,000 as Syl writes, but she’s sure more is needed if any of her darlings care to chip in. Syl is beyond excited about the new Maryland 5 Star happen- ing at Fair Hill this month. This is a true international competition, with the very best riders from around the world competing. The number one rider in the world, Oliver Townend of Great Britain, is entered! As are New Zealand Olympic veterans Tim and Jonelle Price , the #2 and #7 ranked riders on the FEI Eventing World Athlete Rankings, with mounts Xavier Faer and Clas- sic Moet, winner of Badminton 2018. In addition, the entire US Olympic Team from Tokyo 2021, including World #8 rider Boyd Martin, Phillip Dutton and Doug Payne , and Olympic riders from Australia, Canada, Great Britain, New Zealand and the U.S. are entered. How lucky are we to have this in our backyard, darlings!! Harrisburg, coming up this month, has a new manager, Pat Boyle of Showplace Productions in Illinois. He replaces longtime manager Peter Doubleday , who stuck it out for at least 30 years and who is now also off the board of directors. Pat says his goal for the 2021 Pennsyl- vania National Horse Show is “to keep this horse show and its tradition going forward into the next century for the riders that we have coming up.” A wor- thy goal darlings! Among his improvements so far is renaming the Farm Show Complex’s Large Arena the Harrisburg Coliseum, for PNHS purposes alone. A PNHS spokesperson noted that “Pat Boyle and team wanted to give each ring its own new name starting this year and going for- ward for the horse show.” No more Summer Nationals at the PA Farm Show Complex darlings. On top of the pandem- ic canceling everything, more or less, in 2020, the US Hunter Jumper Association discontinued the Stirrup Cup awards for 2021. Organizer Barb Kohr announced that she has sold her 1300 tons of footing to the Pennsylvania National Horse Show. “With a heavy heart I must let go of my quest to have a super cool horse show and championship for the middle of our sport at such a renowned venue,” she said. Promising news: There WILL be a 2022 Pennsylvania Farm Show. Held January 8-15 in Harrisburg, it will be an in-per- son event with “some of the new virtual experiences that have allowed Pennsylvanians to par- ticipate and join the Farm Show in new ways.“ Syl guesses they finally found new storage space for all of the state’s PPP that had filled the halls. The Maryland Horse Council reported earlier this fall that a series of ‘smash and grab’ thefts from vehicles were occurring at trailheads across Maryland and northern Virginia. Knowing owners will be away for extended periods of time, the thieves smash windows, steal credit cards and IDs and use them immediately to purchase gift cards at nearby stores. Others disguise them- selves to resemble the ID photo and cash large checks at the far lane of a bank drive through. Be aware, sweet things! Congratulations to Katie Eick , Farmingdale, NJ, who won the Curt Greene Memorial and the Sweet Karen Scholarships from the Harness Horse Youth Foundation. Katie encountered harness racing on a Girl Scout scholarship at age 12 and now plans to put her Animal Science/ Equine Science degree to work in the Standardbred industry. The scholarships will come in handy as she completes her senior year at Rutgers. Congrats Katie! In other scholarship news, Rebekah Haber , Fredonia, PA, is a recipient of a Territory Scholarship from the Appaloosa Youth Foundation. Rebekah was a 2021 high school graduate and Appaloosa Youth Association member who fulfilled specified criteria! Yay Rebekah! And that’s it for Syl for another month! Until next time, remember to S.S.S. (Send Syl Scoop) at PAEquest@aol.com. And…be careful where you step!
