Page 16 May 2020 EAST COAST EQUESTRIAN By the time someone seeks out Jane Bartsch for help, they are usually at the end of their rope with a horse problem they cannot solve themselves. Others just want to have a better rela- tionship with their horses. At the End of Your Rope? Call Jane Bartsch for Help Jane's mantra is: 'You need to communicate with your horse in a way it understands.' Just as shouting louder in English won't help a foreign-speaker understand you, trying to dominate horses through intimidation and fear - even physically punishing a horse for a mistake it doesn't even know it made - can result in a horse that shuts down or becomes defensive. Horses try to 'talk' to us through body language, but we don't always 'listen.' And just as all people are not alike, all horses aren't, either. Some are outgoing, some are introverts, some seek us out, others look away. We have to adjust our body language and handling techniques to fit the horse. That's why Jane starts her students working on the ground so they see the horses' reactions. Jane can then help the student adjust his or her actions accordingly. Once two-way communication starts, it can open a fun world of force-free training for the owner, and of stress-free learning for the horse. Jane loves the relationship she has with her own horses and takes pleasure in helping others Quiet Victory Farm is a small private facility situated on 32 tranquil acres in Hopewell Twp., Mercer County, NJ which offers individual attention to riders of all levels, from beginner to ad- vanced.
