The importance of having a helmet certified by the Safety Equipment Institute (SEI) to meet the testing ASTM testing standard F1163.23 is significant. SEI is the organization that certifies protective equipment for a number of industries, includ- ing the equestrian industry. SEI selected the ASTM (American Society for Testing Materials) Standard F1163.23 to evaluate most of the helmets sold in the US. In 2023 the standard F1163.15 was updated to include an additional helmet compres- sion test.
