After interning under DEFHR’s head trainer, Sara Strauss, she was hired as DEFHR’s assistant horse trainer. Leigha gains inspiration from working with other nationally regarded trainers like Tara Jones, Scott Purdum, Luke Gingerich and Trevor Carter. She specializ- es in liberty horsemanship, colt starting, and trick work and assists with adoptions and deploys with DEFHR’s emergency response team. Leigha is best known for her liberty performances with rescue horses, showcasing the power, strength, and ability that these magnificent animals can offer. In Louisville, KY, she covered the Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Horse Park, produced equine-focused features and finally bought her first horse. In England she discovered dressage and continued her training in the states. Her work has appeared in USDF Connection, Newsday, The Trail Rider, Western Horseman, Dog Fancy and Games. A past president of the Eastern Shore Writers Association and former PR Director for the Maryland Office of Tourism Development, she lives on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. He is the founder of the Trail Horse Test pro- gram, which is designed to enhance and promote the skills of trail riders and their horses.
