He was introduced to far- riery at age 16, when he developed a deep understanding of equine anatomy and biomechanics. Today, Rick is a sought-after farrier known for his meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the horses in his care. Amanda Grev, PhD Equine Myth Busters; Forage Edition (Fri., 2 pm, Seminar Hall B) Dr. Amanda Grev joined the University of Maryland Extension team in 2019 as the Pasture and Forage Extension Specialist where she provides pasture and forage-re- lated education, programming, and resources. Amanda received her M.S. and Ph.D. in Animal Science at the University of Minnesota, where her research focused on the interaction between equine nutri- tion, forages, and pasture manage- ment. Christine Hajek & Anastasia Schiavi Gentle Giants Presents; Self-Rescue Your Horse From Common Emergencies (Thurs., 6 pm, Round Pen Arena & Sun., 1 pm, Seminar Hall A) Christine Hajek is Founder and President of Gentle Giants Draft Horse Rescue who has rescued over 600 horses from auc- tions. Licensed through Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue, Christine and her counterpart, Anastasia Schiavi have years of experience responding to all types of equine emergencies. Siera Hall Inflammation & the Digestive System (Sat., 6 pm, Seminar Hall B) Siera is a PhD candidate in the Integrative and Biomedical Physiology program at Penn State. Her research involves looking at chronic, subclinical inflammation in the horse and how it can be managed with diet and exercise. Siera has a Bachelor’s in Animal Science, with a minor in Equine Science from Penn State, where she was a live-in student at the Penn State Horse Barns and com- peted on the western equestrian team. Despite a spinal cord injury in November, 2020, she remains hands-on with horses and science. She also barrel races with her Quarter Horse gelding, Rocky. See Siera Hall at the Penn State Ext. She brings a com- prehensive perspective to the topic of Arena Footing.
