The introductory clinic, designed for Emergency Services personnel with limited or no horse experience, is a mix of short talks, demonstrations and hands on experience. Topics covered include the nature of horses, how horses are likely to react in emergencies, what can scare them, equipment, how to catch a loose horse, putting on halters, making halters from rope and leading horses. Other topics include rider falls, loose horses, trailer accidents and barn fires. Participants can see and handle stall doors, trailer latches, trailer ties, tack and other equipment they may encounter. The program is for emergen- cy responders from New Jersey and beyond and is free. The Garden State Horse and Carriage Society, which puts on the clinic, is seeking funding to provide "capture kits" to be given out to attendees. The presenters and vol- unteers working on the clinic include experienced horse own- ers, a veterinarian, an RN and former Paramedic and Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors. The focus will be on accidents and disasters such as fires. This is the second time Garden State Horse & Carriage has presented this clinic at the Horse Park of New Jersey; the first clinic was in November, 2019. The clinic is free and runs from 10 am to noon on April 1 at the Horse Park of New Jersey, Allentown, NJ.
