After interning under DEFHR’s head trainer, Sara Strauss, she was hired on as DEFHR’s assistant horse trainer. Leigha gains inspiration from working with other nation- ally regarded trainers like Tara Jones, Scott Purdum, Luke Gin- gerich and Trevor Carter. She specializes in liberty horseman- ship, colt starting, trick work, and does liberty performances with Vinni the Mini, a DEFHR alumnus. Rick Shaffer The Trail Horse Test Program; Transfer Ground Work to the Saddle (Thurs., 3 pm, Round Pen Arena) Trail Horse Testing Program (Sat., 3 pm Round Pen Arena) Rick is the full-time trainer at R&S Paso Fino Stables and a recorded USEF judge, certified judge for the Paso Fino Horse Assoc., equine clinician who tailors clinics for clients, Paso Fino professional trainer and 4-H Leader. Rick’s teaching en- sures that owners have the skills and confidence to build and maintain the all-important bond with their horses which will serve them well in all equine pursuits. Amy Snover Make Mine a Draft (Sat., 2 pm, Seminar Hall B) Amy is a graduate of Penn State University in Biology, board certified, and practicing in emergency medicine. She drives and shows a Percheron hitch and is Secretary of the Pennsylvania Percheron Association. World Champion with youth, World and Reserve Champions in cart, team, showmanship and judging. A Pennsylvania 4-H leader for over 30 years, she has developed and promoted driving horsemanship skills programs for 4-H horse members. See Amy Snover at the Penn State Univ. booth 623, 624. Stallion Avenue, Parade of Breeds & Exhibitions (Thurs., 4 pm, Fri., 1 pm, Sat., 4 pm, Sun., 11 am, Equine Arena) Stallion Avenue features the region’s top stallions. A variety of breeds will be represented. Each stallion will be shown in the arena each day. The Parade of Breeds follow, featuring exciting and educational demonstrations of many different breeds, high- lighting the beauty and versatility of the horse. Joe Stanco Designing and Preparing a Trail Course (Fri. 4 pm, Seminar Hall B) Joe Stanco is the former 4-H Extension Educator from Wyo- ming County, PA, with almost 12 years of experience in Volunteer Management, Teen Leadership and Animal Science. He has also been an equine industry profes- sional and enthusiast. He is an AQHA L1 Judge and professional horseman, youth horse judging team coach, clinician and an ac- tive riding instructor and trainer.
