Jennine Lection, DVM, DACT What to Expect Before Your Mare is Expecting (Sat., 4 pm, Seminar Hall B) Dr. Lection received both her BS in Animal Science and her DVM with an emphasis on equine practice from North Carolina State University. She completed her equine rotating internship at the Equine Medical Center of Ocala, FL and com- pleted a comparative theriog- enology (reproductive medicine) residency at Cornell University. She became a board-certified theriogenologist in 2021. She currently is a graduate student in the Integrative and Biomedical Physiology program at Penn State and researches inflammatory and infectious conditions of the equine reproductive tract. Dr. Erica Machtinger Managing Ticks on Horses (Fri., 2 pm, Seminar Hall B) Dr. Erica Machtinger holds a B.S. from the University of Del- aware in Wildlife Conservation and Ecology and a MSc and PhD in Entomology from the Univer- sity of Florida. She has studied biological control agents of filth flies affecting livestock and equine facilities, and integrated tick man- agement. An Assistant Professor of Entomology at Penn State and a Certified Wildlife Biologist® with 33 scientific publications in print or review, she is the principal investigator for the Veterinary Entomology Laboratory. Her re- search focuses on arthropod pests of veterinary concern. Erika has competed through the interme- diate level in eventing and is a USDF silver medalist. Jon Mattis From the Ground Up; Learning Your Horse’s Body Language (Fri., 6 pm, Round Pen Arena) Jon is a talented instruc- tor of extraordinary athletes and their equine partners. Jon was the 2019 recipient of the Jefferson Award for his work in therapeutic riding and his contribution to the central PA community. He owns and oper- ates Graceful Acres which began as a therapeutic riding center 9 years ago. Jon continues to teach extraordinary athletes, veterans, and anyone else who is inter- ested in learning natural horse- manship. Jon is CHA qualified and has a B.S. from Mansfield University.
