EAST COAST EQUESTRIAN March 2021 Page 23 The Penn State Extension Equine Team is a group of equine educators providing research-based information on all aspects of horse health and horse farm manage- ment. The team offers educational material to horse owners through publications, workshops, online courses, webinars, and consults. Team members include Dr. Dan- ielle Smarsh, Equine Extension Specialist and Assistant Profes- sor in Equine Science located at Penn State University Park, Laura Kenny, Equine Extension Educator located at the Penn State Extension office of Montgomery County, Brittani Kirkland, Equine Exten- sion Educator located at the Penn State Extension office of Washing- ton County and Bethany Bickel, Equine Extension Associate locat- ed at Penn State University Park. Listed below are some of the programs currently being offered by the team. Stay tuned for infor- mation on new programs they are working on! • Horse Health Symposium: A full-day seminar with speakers on various aspects of horse health and management. • Equine Environmental Stew- ardship Short Course: A4-session program covering pasture manage- ment, manure management, and other farm topics with an emphasis on environmental water quality. • Equine Parasite Work- shops: Half-day workshops cover- ing dewormer resistance, current deworming protocol recommen- dations, and how to conduct your own fecal egg counts. • Horse Hay Workshops: Half-day workshops for horse owners and horse hay producers to come together and learn about each other's needs. • Equine Pasture Walks: Evening field days discussing Tell our advertisers you found them in East Coast Equestrian. Dr. Jimenez was one of the first veterinarians in the USA to integrate these modalities into his equine veterinary practice and has developed and refined his techniques to optimally treat and maintain everything from top international competition horses of every discipline to geriatric pleasure horses. Dr. Jimenez is licensed and treats horses in PA, MD, NJ, and Florida.
