Dr. Carrie Wheeler Scoping It Out; Using Endoscopy (Fri., 11 am, Seminar Hall B) Dr. Wheeler received a Bachelor of Arts from Penn State and her veterinary degree from Iowa State University. Following an internship at the New Jersey Equine Clinic, she enrolled in a Master’s degree program at Kansas State Uni- versity College of Veterinary Medicine. Her areas of research included behavioral monitoring, bovine respiratory disease, and gait analysis and bone regener- ation and healing in orthopedic surgery. Bud is PA Equine Council State Trail Chair and Gwen is Trail Stewardship Program Director. Both are Leave No Trace (LNT) masters and presenters. They developed the PEC’s Trail Stewardship Program that is helping to keep public lands open to horses. They train volunteers and agency personnel and present trail user programs. He has studied Natural Horsemanship, Dressage, Reining, and Rac- ing under many of the great- est mentors and teachers of our time. Though reining has always been his passion, more recently his heart has fallen in love with Working Equitation. He also enjoys training and perfecting the art of bridleless riding. Joining him at the Expo as a guest rider will be his wife, Melanie Ferrio-Wise, the first amateur rider to compete bridleless in Show Jumping at the 2017 Washington Interna- tional Horse Show. John Zanella Horses Healing Veterans (Fri., 10:10 am, Seminar Hall B) The founder and director of Victory Therapeutic Horse- manship, John is a retired Army Sergeant First Class with mul- tiple combat tours and a long history of horse experience, trained as a PATH International instructor. Victory Therapeutic Horsemanship is one of the few therapeutic riding programs serving veterans exclusively. The non-profit organization provides veterans from all branches and generations of the military with much need- ed equine therapy at no cost. Through working with horses Victory Therapeutic Horseman- ship aims to empower service members and offer a gratifying outlet in which to work through their ailments.
