Dr. Elizabeth Santini Preventing Equine Infectious Disease (Thurs., 2 pm, Seminar Hall B) Dr. Elizabeth Santini is a Maryland native who received her veterinary degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech in 2000. She worked as an associate veteri- narian in mixed-animal practice in central Pennsylvania before accepting a position with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture as a Veterinary Medical Field Officer in 2002. Rick Shaffer The Trail Horse Testing Program (Thurs., 3 pm & Sat., 6 pm, Round Pen Arena) Rick is the full time trainer at R&S Paso Fino Stables and a recorded USEF judge, certified judge for the Paso Fino Horse Association, equine clinician who tailors clinics for clients, Paso Fino professional trainer and 4-H Leader. Rick’s teaching ensures that owners have the skills and confidence to build and maintain the all-important bond with their horses which will serve them well in all equine pursuits. Colleen Shelly Horse Rescue; Common Sense vs. Nonsense (Thurs., 3 pm, Seminar Hall B) Horse Neglect; Equine Community Based Solutions (Sat., 4 pm, Seminar Hall B) AWest Chester University Criminal Justice graduate with a minor in Political Science, Colleen retired honorably from the PA State Police, where she dedicated much of her career to animal crimes and animal law issues. As PSP’s first Animal Crimes Investigator, she devel- oped the Basic Animal Cruelty and Animal Law course offered to federal, state, and municipal police officers. Before mov- ing into the private sector, she brought awareness and response to animal cruelty investigation, changing the way animal cruelty and Dog Law complaints are viewed by many police depart- ments. Danielle Smarsh, PhD, PAS Exercise & Your Horse (Thurs., 6 pm, Seminar Hall B) Danielle is an Assistant Professor of Equine Science and Equine Extension Specialist in the Department of Animal Science at Penn State who spent 4.5 years teaching in the Animal Science Department at the Uni- versity of Wisconsin-River Falls. She received her BS in Animal Science from the University of Delaware and her PhD in Equine Exercise Physiology from Rutgers University. Her equine research studied the effects of age and training on antioxidants and oxidative stress in Standard- breds. Visit Danielle Smarsh, PhD, PAS at the Penn State University booth 215, 216. Stallion Avenue, Parade of Breeds & Exhibitions (Thurs., 4 pm, Fri., 1 pm, Sat., 3 pm, Sun., 11 am, Equine Arena) Stallion Avenue features the region’s top stallions. A variety of breeds will be represented. Each stallion will be shown in the arena each day. The Parade of Breeds features exciting and educational demonstrations of many different breeds, highlight- ing the beauty and versatility of the horse.
