Page 20 December 2019/January 2020 EAST COAST EQUESTRIAN Real Estate Each year, the best 4-H riders from eight districts in Pennsylvania arrive in Harrisburg to compete in the State 4-H Horse show. This year, in addition to riding for State Championship titles, Appaloosa riders were also competing for scholarship money donated by KAC. In a continued effort to pro- mote the Appaloosa breed to young riders, the Keystone Appaloosa Club started a scholarship program for Pennsylvania’s 4-H Riders. A $500 scholarship was awarded to the highest placing rider of a registered Appaloosa in Keystone Appaloosa Club Awards Inaugural 4-H Scholarships the English and Western divisions. This year, Chloe Sullivan, riding her Appaloosa gelding, Speech- less, won the English Division and Emily Snippert riding Lookin to Heaven, won the Western Division. Emily is in her fifth year with the Waterford Bucking Broncos, where she is also the Vice Pres- ident of the club. A very active 4-H member. Emily participates in events such as hippology, horse bowl, model horse shows, speech contests and the state leadership conference. Emily is also the Treasurer of the Erie County Teen Council 4-H club. Emily’s mount, Lookin to Heaven (Boomer) has been her 4-H proj- ect for the past four years. 2019 was Emily and Boom- er’s fourth year qualifying for the state show together. They showed in Trail ages 8 to 13 winning 4th place, Western Horsemanship 12-14 placing 6th and they were finalists in the Western Pleasure 8 to 13 divi- sion. In addition to her placings at the state show, Emily received her 300-hoof hour award through 4-H with Boomer and logged 500 hours with the Appaloosa Saddle Log program. The winner of the $500 scholarship in the English division was Chloe Sullivan riding Speech- less. Chloe, currently a freshman at Bloomsburg University, has been a member of the Ride for Pride 4-H club since she was 8 years old. Chloe has served as the Vice President, Secretary and has been the President of the club for the past two years. In addition to showing, Chloe has attended the state leadership conference and attended the Level III Horsemanship Skills Program. This was the first state show together for Chloe and Speech- less (Graham). They qualified in Trail, English Showmanship, Breed Type Hunter under Saddle and Hunt Seat Equitation. Gra- ham and Chloe brought home a 4th in the English Showmanship, a Reserve State Champion in the Breed Type Hunter under Saddle and were the State Champions in Hunt Seat Equitation in her age division. Chloe and Graham also won the English Pleasure Futurity walk/trot/canter at the State Ju- nior 4-H Show. Remember...tell our advertisers you found them in East Coast Equestrian.
