FARMS HORSES Microchip Lookup Tool for Horses Horselookup.org also promotes the industry’s various Safety Net Programs, which offer individuals the opportunity to attach their name to a horse’s registration in perpetuity for the purposes of providing an option for that horse should it ever be in need of a home. Safety Net Programs vary by organization and are managed by those partic- ipating organizations. If a horse is enrolled, a special logo will appear with that animal’s search results specifying the program and the contact information for that organization. Early adopters of this in- dustry initiative are The Jockey Club and their Thoroughbred Connect Program, US Equestrian (USEF), HomeAgain, Data- mars, Inc. and their PetLink.net registry, Microchip ID Systems, Inc. and their Equine Protection registry as well as their LifeTrac Safety Net Program. The Ameri- can Horse Council is continuing to solicit participation from every U.S. organization that houses microchip information in an effort to make this tool as thorough as possible. For more info, find us on FB or www.rosetree-bluemountain.com The second annual Maryland Thoroughbred Eventing Series concluded with the Full Moon Farm Horse Trials on Novem- ber 10, 2019. After the points were tallied, Maryland Horse Council member Lindsay Berreth of Leesburg, VA, and her 2000 Kentucky-bred Thoroughbred gelding Oh So Extreme, reg- istered name Private Pleasure (by Private Terms, out of Plum Thicket), came out on top, never scoring above 30. Lindsay covers eventing for The Chronicle of the Horse when not riding. In addition to eventing, she is an en- thusiastic dressage rider, working towards her United States Dres- sage Federation Bronze medal, which makes her dressage scores hard to beat in her eventing com- petitions. The series promotes the post-racing careers of Thorough- breds and is comprised of the 17 United States Eventing Associa- tion sanctioned events in Mary- land. Scoring was based on total penalties for the season. In its first year, the series proved popular with the com- petitors of Thoroughbreds as an additional way to promote two popular breeds with deep roots in Maryland. Series founder 2019 Maryland Thoroughbred Eventing Series Concludes Carolyn Mackintosh started the series to shine a light on the ca- pabilities of these athletic horses in their second careers. “I want eventers to recognize the wealth of equine talent available locally. Maryland produces and imports wonderful horses with great potential.” Maryland Horse Council and the Maryland Horse Breed- ers Association both signed on as early supporters of the series. Cricket Goodall, Executive Director of the MHBA, found the series an easy fit, saying that “The Maryland Horse Breeders Association wants to support the non-racing careers of its Maryland-breds. This series demonstrates the versatility of the Thoroughbred.” In addition to raising the visibility of Maryland’s horses, the series also promotes Mary- land’s USEA sanctioned events. According to Maryland Horse Council President Neil Agate, “Eventing in Maryland is on an incredible up-swing and The Maryland Horse Council wants to do everything we can to not only encourage its continued growth but also make sure we grow with it. This series is the perfect way for us to do both." Horse Lay Ups: 20 minute drive to New Bolton Center/ University Of Pennsylvania Vet School. (No self care avail- able). Owner owned and run.
