For over 20 years, manufac- turing and producing quality large animal veterinary bandages has Preparation is Key with The Franklin-Williams Company With Spring comes mud and with it, one of the most frustrating equine skin condi- tions: Scratches (also called Mud Fever, Pastern Dermatitis, Greasy Heel). The chronic and progressive equine dermati- tis infects the deep layers of skin in the heel and pastern. Scratches is a fungus that can have a bacterial component in more advanced stages. Seen in horses housed in muddy pas- tures, it’s also commonly found on show horses who spend a lot of time in the wash rack and whose legs are not always dried adequately. Banixx™ Keeps Scratches at Bay During a Wet, Muddy Spring How do I keep my horse from getting scratches? If possible, keep your horse in a clean, dry stall and away from overly wet, muddy pastures. Avoid early morning turnout when there is heavy dew or frost, and, when you bring your horse in, dry his legs and check for ear- ly signs of infection. For show horses, spray on Banixx liberally as a preventative after wash- ing. Since Banixx provides an inhospitable environment to both bacteria and fungus, stay ahead of the game by spraying the lower legs and pasterns regularly with Banixx. Pat it into the skin so that it makes good contact. It’s not possible to over-medicate with Banixx™, so it can easily be used daily as a preventative. How do I treat scratches? Instead of harsh chemical mixes, Banixx provides a gentler and more successful approach. If needed, carefully clip the hair away from the infected area, making sure not to break the skin. Then, wash thoroughly with Banixx Medicated shampoo (that already contains Marine Collagen as soothing agent). Pat the areas dry and, twice a day, apply a gentle, topical treatment, such as Banixx™, that will not burn or sting and will promote heal- ing. Consider applying Banixx NEWAnti-microbial Cream as an invisible topical protective Band-Aid for the final finish to the treatment. been Franklin-Williams’ target; it is their only business and therefore they devote all of their energy to maintaining the best possible prod- uct, service, and reliability. Although primarily used in equine veterinary practices and clinics, Franklin-Williams bandages and kits are something any transporter does not want to leave home without. Despite all of the necessary precautions, trailering injuries are bound to happen. Be prepared for the worst with an EquiWrap Trauma Kit. Working closely with equine veterinarians, Frank- lin-Williams created a low-cost kit to provide horse owners a means to treat leg injuries when their veterinarian is not avail- able, such as with transport. The key is simplicity; other kits may try to provide for everything but lack the quantities needed to treat an injury in full. The EquiWrap Trauma Kit is intend- ed only for equine leg lacera- tions and delivers a generous amount of high quality, effec- tive bandages. The instructions are plainly written, illustrated, and bilingual. When a horse is in trouble, there is no time to waste. Choose a bandage that quickly does what it’s designed to do, without any fuss. Other products include the SteriRoll, RediRoll, and Combi- Roll, all available in widths from eight to eighteen inch. Specific bandaging problems or requests are welcome…if the solution is not at Franklin-Williams, the helpful support staff will refer clients to another source for assistance.
