Suffering from potentially career ending inju- ries, Kevin needed to find a way to get the stress off his back and knees. His solution was the invention of the Hoofjack® hoof stand. Encouraged by cli- ents, fellow farriers, friends and family, Kevin eventually offered his invention to the horse world in 2001. Using a Hoofjack® to its full capacity means never having to put a hoof between your legs again or bear the weight of the horse with your back or knees. Kevin estimates that using the Hoofjack® extended his career by at least 10 years full time and then an additional 5 years part time. The Hoofjack® can be used by anyone that needs to pick up a hoof for daily maintenance, treatment and bandaging, or trimming. Using a Hoofjack® allows the horse to stand in an anatomi- cally correct position while being fully supported by the stand. Save Your Back and Knees with a Hoofjack The Hoofjack® was hon- ored to be included as one of the 35 biggest hoof-care product improvements in the past 35 years in the American Farriers Journal article “A Look At 35 Years Of New And Better Hoof- Care Products”. Hoofjack® has also been awarded the most innovative new horse care prod- uct at Equitana USA 2001 and at the 2004 Equi-Fair at Spruce Meadows. Hoofjack® is manufac- tured and assembled in the USA and comes with a 3 year warranty against breakage by an equine. The Hoofjack® is sold worldwide and is available in a variety of colors and sizes to accommodate the smallest mini to the largest draft. A dental attachment is also available for dentistry and minor facial procedures. Hard work does not have to be back breaking. By Nicole Rambo, Ph.D., Tribute Equine Nutrition It is easy to focus on the nutrients where we can visualize a difference in our horse’s appear- ance. Calories maintain body weight, amino acids build topline and omega fatty acids contribute to a healthy, shiny hair coat. Yet, we fortify the horse’s diet with a number of other nutri- ents whose impact may not be as obvious to the human eye. Many of these nutrients support systems that are integral to maintaining health and wellness in the horse. Vitamin A, for example, is important for maintaining both the innate and adaptive immune responses to infection. Innate immunity is the body’s first line of defense against viruses and bacteria. Adaptive immunity is a more complex and specialized immune response. Vaccines prime the adaptive immune system to allow for a rapid and specific immune response when a horse is exposed to infectious diseases. Health Care and Nutrition Advice from Tribute Equine Nutrition A good wellness program will include a spring visit from your veterinarian to administer vaccinations appropriate to the diseases encountered in your area. Vitamin A, as well as other nutrients that support the immune system, are key to en- suring development of a proper immune response to vaccina- tion which will minimize the risk of infection with disease exposure. Vitamin A is only one of multiple nutrients that support the immune system. Providing horses with a well-fortified and balanced diet both complements and enhances the rest of your equine wellness program. Trib- ute Equine Nutrition products, fed at recommended feeding rates for your horse’s size and activity level, will provide the appropriate amounts of nutrients to support immunity as well as performance.
