Swan Lake Stables’ Customers Can Show Where They Ride
Swan Lake Stables is a top-notch hunter and jumper show facility, with four outdoor show rings, two outdoor schooling areas and a 350’ x 120’ indoor riding arena with an enclosed heated observation area. The main barn has 38 12’ x 12’ matted stalls with automatic waterers. A heated center area has three tack rooms, three grooming stalls and three wash stalls with hot and cold water and heat lamps. The farm also has extensive trails and open fields for a leisurely ride or training at the hand gallop, and a 23-acre lake in which horses can even enjoy a swim.
Show are a main focus – the farm hosts over 40 hunter and jumper shows each year ranging from a monthly schooling series to an AA show in June that includes a $10k Hunter Derby and a $35k Grand Prix. Boarding, training, lessons and sales are also available.
Head trainer Meghan Garland has been showing in the hunter and jumper circuit since age four, moving up through the ranks from short stirrup to 4’6” jumpers. She has won multiple championships and year-end finals in both hunters and jumpers along with many equitation titles. She piloted the stallion Swan Lake’s Arox into the ribbons for their debut in the indoor finals at the Pennsylvania National and Washington International Horse Shows, and claimed the Zone II champion in the Amateur Owner Hunter Division.
Swan Lake teaches beginner through A-level hunter, jumper, and equitation lessons, focusing on the care and comfort of the horse and rider. Instructors take special care not to push students too hard too fast, ensuring they have a good grasp of the basics and are ready to move up. Young riders learn responsibility in taking care of the animal and the equipment. While lessons are geared toward horse show level riding, showing is optional. But the schooling shows are a convenient way for new students to explore showing, and offer many opportunities for achievable short and long term goals.
Full board includes a 12’ x 12’ matted stall with automatic waterer, daily turnout, feeding twice daily, free choice hay, and full use of the facilities, rings and trails. Only hunters, jumpers, and equitation boarders are accepted since the rings often have courses set in them. Boarders also reap the benefits of at home horse shows if they choose. Horses are handled and cared for daily. Grooming and or training packages are available for vacationers or busy owners.
Training in the hunter and jumper disciplines focuses on understanding the horse and their individual way of learning. Whether it is a green horse just starting out, or an advanced show horse receiving a tune up, the goal is to make the animal like its job and the people working with it. They believe that taking more time during the training process leads to a more responsive and happy horse in the long run. Horses and riders trained at Swan Lake have been successful in many year-end finals and claimed numerous awards and prizes.
Swan Lake has recently partnered with Just World International, a foundation that provides money and education to children across the globe. This charity will be the focus of the Kick Off Classic Horse Show, June 22-27, which includes a $35,000 Grand Prix as well as a $10,000 Johnson Horse Transportation Hunter Derby.
“At Swan Lake we focus on the horse, and our footing is extremely important to us,” said show manager Lynn Garland. “When people come to board or show at Swan Lake, their horses have the best quality everything. From stalls, to our footing, to our amenities, we make sure that customers are treated as guests in our home.”
For The Horse Farms Open House: Swan Lake Stables will have riding demonstrations featuring their top show horses and offer coupons for discounted lessons.
